Due to the pandemic, China will skip two International Federation of Sport Climbing World Cup dates this fall.

Today, the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) announced that it would cancel two upcoming Climbing World Cup events. The IFSC Lead and Speed World Cup, scheduled for September 30-October 2 in Wujiang, and the Boulder and Lead World Cup, slated for October 6-9 in Chongqing, will not take place.

The Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA) made the decision based on concerns over COVID-19.

In a statement, the IFSC, CMA, and local organizers thanked the competition sport climbing community for its understanding and apologized for any inconveniences the cancellations may cause.

The IFSC said it’s looking into rescheduling the events and promised to post updates as they become available. COVID-19 cases in China are reportedly decreasing, but ongoing concerns have recently generated lockdowns.
